As your business grows and your costs increase, at some point you’ll want to perform an assessment on the ways in which you’re spending money, and what you can do about waste.
There a few simple ways that you can start streamlining your business for greater efficiency. If you’d like to know more, then read on for my top three tips…
1. Reduce paper wastage
It doesn’t matter what business you’re in, this can be a surprisingly costly area for your company. Whether you’re a traditional supplier printing contracts, orders and invoices for filing each day, or you’re a digital business that printing content for portfolios, most companies print more than they need to.
Begin by asking your staff to analyse the way they use the printer; do they do so unnecessarily? What information do you add to the paperwork by printing it, why is it needed, and is it vital to job performance?
Many businesses are convinced that they’re doing the right thing by making hard copies of everything, but all this does it take up space. If you want duplicates of client details or past orders, the better solution is to invest in some external drives (such as a USB) where you can store copies of everything, and keep it on separate premises.
2. Invest in HR software
One of the most complained about aspects of a business is the HR department. This is such a complex area that there’s a lot of room for error, and you could be diverting valuable time and resource purely towards correcting these issues.
These don’t contribute towards a stronger, larger business, and one of the ways in which you can improve this area, is to invest in some tailored software that helps to minimise all those areas of risk and inaccuracy.
CascadeHR is one such package, it can reduce the amount of payroll administration, efficiently manage all those training strategies and yearly review programmes of employees, as well as encourage the level of engagement within your workforce.
3. Make your team mobile
Businesses need to move with the times, and one of the most effective ways of streamlining your business whilst improving your reputation as an employer, is to make your workforce mobile.
Invest in laptops instead of static desktops, reducing your electricity bills while allowing your team to work from home. It shows you understand they have commitments outside of the workplace.
Provide each of them with a personal smartphone too, reducing your phone bill as you can negotiate deals on mobile contracts rather than having to pay for an extensive connection of landlines. Plus it will give your employees a feeling of empowerment, as they’re in charge of their own schedule and workload.
