The BCC quarterly economic survey, published during Export Week, provides further evidence that the UK economy is gathering pace.
But the organisation, which represents UK small businesses, says growth is only assured in the short-term and that it must become more balanced for its future prospects.
Access to finance will also be key as firms look to invest to meet growing demand at home and abroad.
“Confidence is high and our members are determined to continue driving the recovery,” said John Longworth, director general of the BCC.
“We are brilliant at services and very successful at exporting our knowledge-based industries all over the world. This includes everything from accountancy and marketing through to literature and the IT sector.”
Highlights from the survey show the balance of export orders and sales at just under +40 per cent, while for manufacturers domestic sales, orders and employment expectations also hovered around the 40 per cent mark.
