The Office of the Small Business Commissioner has launched a new webinar series designed to encourage faster payments and improve cash flow for smaller companies across the UK.

The programme, titled Get the Money Moving, features interviews hosted by Emma Jones with business leaders and industry figures discussing practical ways to improve payment practices and strengthen the UK’s payment culture.

The first episode, released on 2 March, featured Jambu Palaniappan, chief executive of Checkatrade. The discussion covered Palaniappan’s career path, the growing role of digital tools in helping small businesses operate more efficiently, and strategies for reducing the risk of late payments.

New episodes are scheduled to be released monthly until the end of the year. Future guests are expected to include Ashley Armstrong, UK business editor at the Financial Times, Richard Davies, chief executive of Allica Bank, and Cas Paton, founder of OnBuy.

All webinars will be available on the commissioner’s website and published on YouTube, free to watch. Topics will range from broader economic trends and the impact of artificial intelligence on business, through to practical advice on managing cash flow and ensuring invoices are paid on time.

Jones said the initiative was part of a wider effort to improve payment practices across the economy. “We are on a mission to make life easier for small firms by getting money moving faster,” she said. “There are many organisations leading the way on prompt payment, and this series gives them a platform to share practical insights.”

The interviews are designed to be concise, running for around 20 minutes, with the aim of providing accessible guidance for business owners seeking to improve financial resilience.

Late payment has long been a major concern for smaller businesses, with delayed invoices often creating cash flow pressures that can limit investment, hiring and growth. The commissioner’s office was established to tackle those issues and encourage better payment behaviour among larger companies and public bodies.
