Digital start-up businesses are being invited to pitch for a share of £210,000, which is aimed at encouraging innovative solutions for the future of urbanisation.

Six start-ups with the best ideas and plans will share the cash, a total of £35,000 each and will be able to partner with industry titans such as Intel, Siemens and EDF Energy to help bring their vision to fruition.

The competition, called the Connected Cities Contest, was created by IC tomorrow, part of the government’s Technology Strategy Board. It will look for digital businesses that can push the agenda on connected buildings, communities and environments.

IC tomorrow programme manager Matt Sansam said: “There is an urgent need for sustainable innovations that will help us maintain our current quality of life without too much detriment to the environment.

“Collaboration is key to solving these challenges, which is why IC tomorrow is bringing together some of the leading companies in the Connected Cities space as challenge partners. We look forward to seeing a range of inventive applications from start-ups and small businesses.”

The competition opens its doors on 1 September and businesses will be invited to briefing session at Canary Wharf on 10 September. For more information follow the link below.
