Millions of people in the UK face fines if they fail to complete tax returns, and pay any income tax due, by the end of today.
At the start of Friday it was estimated that around 1.3 million people had yet to fill in the forms and risked fines for being late.
According to reports, around 430,000 returns were filed on Thursday while another 200,000 were received by HM Revenue and Customs by 11am on Friday UK time.
Missing the deadline means a £100 fine plus interest.
Very late returns qualify for harsher penalties. People failing to process returns within three months of the deadline will incur additional penalties of £10 a day, up to a maximum fine of £900.
Further financial punishments kick-in at six and 12 months.
