There will come a time when you are an entrepreneur that you can no longer carry out all of your work alone and you need an extra pair of hands or two.
When this day does arrive it is important for you to take the time out to work on your management skills and style to ensure that you don’t turn out to be a boss from Hell when the time comes. Today we are going to take a look at the things you need to do to make sure that your employees are happy from the moment they walk in the door.
Offer benefits
Every good business will have some standard benefits which they offer to their employees from the moment they walk into the door.
It is important as a workplace for you to have an employee benefits scheme which gives things such as health insurance and pensions and other small perks. It is these sort of things which can make a difference to your employees and make them want to stay working for you for longer.
Be flexible
The worst thing any boss can do is run a military style operation in the office and make their employees feel like they are being whipped into shape.
As a boss it is your job to make sure that your employees feel comfortable and trusted in the workplace, and the best way for you to do this is to give them some space.
Don’t look over their shoulders and stop them listening to music as they work. Your workers will find a flow which works for them and this is what they will do every day to work in a productive manner. Leave them to work in their own style and trust them to manage their own time.
Be honest
If you suddenly have a call from up above which makes you have to solve a problem for the business, there is no sense in keeping it to yourself and stressing over it alone. Your employees are a team and most importantly they are a support network.
Your employees will make the time to help you with a problem and when you let them in on these things they will feel valued and needed. Sharing things with your team of course also brings you closer together and builds a strong foundation of trust.
Bond outside work
One of the easiest and often overlooked ways to make your team happier in the workplace is to have lunches and activities together outside.
If you are looking for a way to feel more involved in your team and closer knit, having a team lunch or going for a trip somewhere none work related can be a great thing.
Doing this will allow you to see the real people behind your workers and it can make a hire difference to how you see your team. They will be happier because they will get to know their colleagues and this will boost the morale of the office massively.
