6 Ways To Modify Your Car To Your Personal Taste

Whether you’re a car fanatic or not, everyone secretly wants a certain type of car to reflect who they are as a person. And, the type of car that you drive can say a lot about who you are as a person. For example, you spot a Porsche pull up and you’d probably assume that it belongs to someone in the business world.

But can a car really reflect on your style? For some people, money plays a huge role in the type of car that they drive, but it doesn’t mean you can’t modify it to make it more to your taste. So, even if you’ve got an old banger, take a look at these imaginative ways you can help your car match you just that little bit more.

Concentrate on the body work

Unfortunately road accidents happen all of the time, and if you’ve been unlucky enough to have your car dinged or keyed by a stranger, you might feel like your car sticks out like a sore thumb. And, you’ve now got to drive around with it until you can afford to get it fixed. While there will be some repairs that need a professional to look at it, there may be some things you can do in the meantime, such as:

  • Try buffing out dings and dents in your car using hot water. The bodywork of your car will react with the heat from the water, which will make it easier to manipulate back to the shape it used to be. Some people have successfully used hot water and a plunger to pull the dent back into the shape it used to be, so it might be worth having a go yourself before paying for a repair!
  • A scratch in your paintwork is annoying, but they’re also not that difficult to fix either. In fact, if you head to Halfords, you should easily be able to find a touch up pen in the colour of your car. If there's a larger patch on your car due to a scrape, you’ll need to prime the area first and then find a spray that matches your car. The good news is that it’s really inexpensive!
  • If your car has been involved in an accident that has caused irreparable damage to your bodywork, then consider going to a scrapyard and finding the same colour model as your car. Most parts are actually easier than you think to change yourself, and you can usually buy them pretty cheap too.

Personalised number plates

If you’ve got a pretty common car, then there’s a good chance that you’ve accidentally tried to open someone else’s car with your fob (we’ve all been there, don’t worry) before realising it’s not your car. So, why not make your car a bit more personal to you with private number plates? The price will vary depending on how rare your desired plate is, but they’re usually pretty affordable too. Why not get creative and see what you can come up with for your car?

Switch up the interior

If there’s simply nothing you can do to the exterior to make your car feel more in tune with your style, then you could focus your efforts on the interior instead. Simple things like having your interior seats professionally cleaned can bring them up as good as new! Or, you might consider buying some car seat covers to add another touch of style to your car. Then, you could pair it with a steering wheel cover and matching floor mats too. If you really wanted to add flair, you could consider getting footwell lighting to brighten things up.

Get matching alloys

When you’ve got mismatched alloys on your car, it immediately affects how it looks. And, getting matching alloys isn’t cheap either! Thankfully, you can now get alloy covers that clip onto the existing ones which will immediately improve the look of your car. If you want to stand out, consider getting a set that contrasts with the colour of your car. Or, you could stick to a chrome theme and have the shiniest alloys around. Either way, it’ll instantly elevate the look and feel of your car, and they’re really inexpensive to buy!

Focus on the headlights

Sometimes known as the “eyes” of your car, your headlights can also make a huge difference to how your car looks too. As you probably already know, your headlights can become cloudy overtime which instantly ages your car. Luckily, there are lots of tricks to clean cloudy headlights that you can try out to bring them up as good as new.

Or, if you wanted to really jazz things up, you could buy some angel eyes for your car to give it a more sporty and daring look. You will need to get them fitted professionally, because there are laws on the angles of angel eye headlights and if you fitted them yourself, you could end up driving round with illegal headlights, so it’s best left to the professionals.

Tint the windows

Finally, when you think of tinted windows on a car, there’s a good chance you think of the boy racers you see zooming around town. And while they do indeed tint their windows for the looks, there are actually a lot of benefits that come from doing it (especially when it’s done right).

Firstly, they can help keep the temperature of your car stable. So, if you’ve got the heating on, it can help retain that heat. The same goes for air conditioning too - on a hot day, you won’t have to worry about returning to your car being stiflingly hot. Not only that, but they can help prevent the sun from bleaching the interior of your car, which happens in every car over time.

You also benefit from deterring thieves from peering into your car too, which is always a bonus, especially if you’ve spent so much time and energy modifying your car to match with your taste. Consider getting your windows professionally tinted!
