The government says it has created a “one-stop-shop” service to help businesses relocate their centres of production in the UK.

Analysts suggest that the practice of “reshoring”, the practice of bringing manufacturing hubs back from places like China and Eastern Europe to the UK, is on the increase.

According to UK Trade and Investment, around 1,500 manufacturing jobs have been reshored to the UK since 2011.

The new government service “joins up” a range of existing support structures under the banner of Reshore UK.

It will provide a matching and location service, access to advice and support and a named individual to help each company

Ministers argue reasons for returning manufacturing output to the UK include a strong and stable, economy, good regulatory environment, strong legal frameworks and a “dynamic” labour market.

Many businesses also believe they can ensure a higher standard of work on their doorstep.
