Have You Outgrown Your Home Office?

Many business owners run their company from home. Quite often a home office is all that is needed to run a successful business. However some business owners find that there are limitations to working from home - especially as their company starts to grow.

Renting or buying office space can be expensive,so you need to be sure that it’s the right move. Below are just a few signs that you may have outgrown your home office and that you may be ready to find a workspace elsewhere.

You can no longer cope with the distractions

If you cannot concentrate on your work at home, it could be time to find office space elsewhere. There are a few different types of distractions that can make working from home challenging, however the biggest one if likely to be other members of your household. Perhaps you live with a roommate who loves to invite friends round to party when you’re working in the evening? Or perhaps you have kids that are constantly interrupting you as you try to work? If after several conversations you keep getting distracted, it could be time to accept that working from home is not practical any more.

You want to hire employees

Can’t keep up with all the work and need to hire a helping hand? It’s unlikely that you’ll want to be inviting employees into your home to work with you. You may not have the space to both work in your home office and you may find that it’s not a professional environment. Renting separate office space could allow you to hire a team of employees without having to invite them into your home life. Of course, there is the option of hiring remote employees instead if you really want to continue working from home. However, this may not be ideal if you want to closely collaborate.

You need private space to meet clients

Just as you may not want to invite employees into your home, you may also not want to invite clients into your home. It won’t create a very professional image and may feel like an invasion of your personal space. Acquiring your own office space could give you a private space to host meetings. While you can meet in coffee bars or rent meeting spaces, a private office could give you a space to decorate as you like and could give you access to all the equipment you need. Virtual meetings could be an alternative solution, however you may find that meeting up in person is more advantageous in some cases.

You’ve ran out of space for all your business equipment

If you can barely fit all the equipment you need into your home office and it’s starting to take over your home, it could be time to rent separate office space. This could allow you to reclaim your home as a space for personal equipment, while giving you plenty of space for all your business gear. Many businesses do not need much equipment to run, however if you manufacture or sell products you could find that you quickly run out of space for all your tools and inventory.
