New Possibilities: Rebuilding Your Life After Losing Your Business

While everybody's feeling the pinch with numerous price hikes in our day-to-day lives, if you have run a business that has suffered at the hands of the pandemic, naturally, you are going to feel reluctant to get back on the horse. But if you are in a position where you have no choice but to reinvent yourself, what are the things that you have to consider? Bouncing back from failure is never easy, and it can be demoralising, but let's show you exactly what you need to do.

Every Market Is Oversubscribed (but Don't Let This Stop You)

People are always looking for businesses to buy, and one of the big reasons that we stop ourselves from ever going back into business is that every single industry is oversubscribed or there is too much competition. But there are always going to be people selling services at discounted prices. What we have to remember is that people selling any service at a low price are not setting themselves up for long-term success.

We can blame our competitors for being more competitive in the market, but the true key to success is being different from everybody else. So if we think that we shouldn't get back on the horse because of over-saturation, then we never will. Instead, consider what you can do to make yourself different.

Define Your Ideal Clients

You don't have to be in the same industry that you were in originally, but of course, you need to do your market research and ensure that you are offering something different from what everybody else is. But in order to do this effectively you've got to define your target client and find out where they are.

When you have defined your ideal clients, you will be able to go to them. You will also be able to tailor your services and resources effectively which will deliver positive word-of-mouth and build up the business in the best way possible. You have to remember that people will do business with people that they know and trust, and when you start to figure out who your ideal client is, not just because of the profit they will bring, but because you can empathize with them, this will develop a symbiotic relationship that goes the distance.

Forget About Short-Term Success

Half the problem with many small businesses is that they are constantly living on a month-to-month basis, and to be successful, they've got to bring the money in instantly because they have outgoings, but as soon as one client doesn't pay up straight away, this throws everything off balance. But in order to get rid of short-term success, we've got to have a mindset that focuses on the long-term.

The long-term component of success is about making sure that you can invest time into what you want to achieve. And you might have it in your head that you don't want to go back to an office job, or you do not want to return somewhere with your tail between your legs. That's absolutely fine, because a lot of people started businesses due to their hatred of the 9 to 5. But, that being said, if you are really invested in making your business a long-term success, you have to be aware of the sacrifices you need to make.

You don't have to go back to the office, but you've got to find a way to make a supplementary income. This means potentially setting up a variety of side hustles. Side hustles aren't just a great way to keep the money coming in but if you set up a number of them, you will be able to develop a number of businesses that could be successful, therefore you are achieving your goals. In order to do this effectively, long-term and bigger-picture thinking are crucial. This means that you may potentially have to get over yourself, and not think of yourself as above certain things. Everybody is experiencing the pinch in one way or another, and as long as you are working, you are doing right by yourself.

Show up and Be Consistent

Consistency is what will help you during this difficult time. With every corner we turn, we could find ourselves haunted by our failures. You could find your competitors going from strength to strength with you being left in the dust. It's not easy, and it's simple to fall into the trap of self-sabotage, but if you are going to rebuild your businesses, and therefore your life, you've got to show up. You need to work like there is someone reading over your shoulder, checking that you are accountable for every single minute of your day.

Rebuilding your life is about mindset, and ensuring that you are ready to go as soon as you sit down at your desk. And that's not to say this is easy. We all have our crosses to bear. We all have doubts, we feel stressed, but the most important thing that we should all do is learn the inherent weaknesses we have and mould them into something more positive. Nobody can get anything done if they've had a terrible night's sleep. So focus on making health a priority.

Make sure that everything is in place so you are functioning at your optimum. Once you get these things in place, you are in a better position to work at 110% efficiency. Because if you want a successful life, you've got to take action and that means you've got to get over the biggest obstacle of all, yourself.

Getting back on the horse in life is about leaping over the obstacles that we put up by ourselves. It's so easy to blame the pandemic for the business going under, but rather than being in a negative frame of mind, you've learned a lot from these mistakes. You made mistakes in the past, and you will in the future. Instead of looking back, look forward, and get back on the horse.
