British solar technology company Naked Energy has announced its expansion into Spain and Portugal, as it looks to bring its high-efficiency solar heat and power systems to the Iberian market.

The move comes as the region steps up efforts to decarbonise heat — which represents the largest share of Spain’s energy consumption — and strengthen grid resilience following widespread power blackouts earlier this year. Naked Energy’s systems generate energy independently of the grid, offering a potential buffer against instability while supporting national net-zero targets.

The company has established Naked Energy Iberia, led by Luis Guajardo, an industrial engineer with more than 15 years of experience in the energy, water and industrial sectors. Guajardo previously led regional expansion at the German infrastructure firm Rädlinger Primus Line.

Naked Energy’s flagship Virtu range combines solar thermal and photovoltaic (PVT) technologies to generate both heat and electricity. The company’s VirtuHOT collectors produce heat up to 120°C, while VirtuPVT combines power and heat generation up to 75°C. Both have received TÜV Rheinland certification, with VirtuPVT recognised as the world’s first evacuated PVT collector to achieve the standard. Naked Energy claims the Virtu system can be up to ten times more efficient than conventional photovoltaic panels.

The company’s expansion follows a £17 million investment from Barclays and E.ON Energy Infrastructure Solutions, part of a wider push to scale up its technology across international markets. Naked Energy’s collectors are already deployed in more than 20 countries, including installations at the British Library and the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

Christophe Williams, CEO of Naked Energy said:“Expanding into Spain and Portugal represents a natural next step for Naked Energy as we continue our mission to decarbonise heat globally. The ongoing energy transition across both countries offers a unique opportunity to demonstrate the value of our high-performance solar thermal and PVT technologies.

“Our growth strategy is built on three key pillars: driving continuous technological innovation, building strong partnerships with leading industry players, and delivering flagship projects that showcase the financial and environmental impact our solutions have.

Naked Energy will showcase its Virtu range at Genera & Matelec 2025 in Madrid, as the company positions itself to play a growing role in southern Europe’s transition to clean heat.
