What Do You Need In Order To Create The Perfect Office?

When it comes to your business, you need to make sure that you are creating the perfect office. There are so many things that need to be done, that it makes sense for you to plan it all out before you start putting things into place. A lot of business owners don’t seem to realize just how much work goes into creating an office space that works for everyone, or they miss parts out thinking that they can save themselves some money.

This is absolutely not the way that you want to go with this, as it will cause problems down the line. In this article, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the things that you need to do in order to create the perfect office space, so keep reading down below if you would like to find out more.

Comfortable Furniture

First, you need to be looking at comfortable furniture for your employees. The last thing that anyone needs is to feel as though they have been sitting on a slab of stone all day as this can cause problems with the neck and back. Ideally, you want to look into the kind of furniture that is going to avoid this as you want your employees to be as healthy and comfortable as possible while they are working. As such, ergonomic furniture is what you should be looking for. You will be able to find some beautiful pieces online that reduce the risk of any kind of work related injury, giving your business a leg up over others as a place to work.

Just make sure that you are testing the pieces out before you order them in bulk. See if you can get one sent to you so that you can sit in it, and feel what it’s like. If you’re not willing to sit in it for hours per day, then you shouldn't expect any of your employees to either.

A Professional, Yet Comfortable Look

When you are designing your office, the goal should be to create a positive atmosphere through a professional, yet comfortable look. It’s not the easiest thing to create as you don’t want the office to look stuffy, but at the same time you don’t want it to look like a living room. There’s got to be a balance here and that balance is difficult to get right. If you’re able to achieve it though, then it’s going to be in your best interest to do this.

For example, a glass office desk is a fantastic looking piece of furniture, but it also gives off a comfortable kind of vibe. If you are stuck for inspiration, there are plenty of pictures online that will give you the boost that you need to get through the designing process. Plus, if you’re really stuck, then you can always look at hiring an interior designer to come and give you the advice that you are looking for.

A Break Room For Employees

Ideally, your employees need somewhere that they can take their breaks and chill out without having to leave the office. Of course, this option is available to them, but sometimes it’s nice to not have to leave, but also not have to spend the entirety of the break at your desk.

Make sure that there are certain things in here such as a fridge for everyone to keep their lunches or snacks in, a kettle, toaster, microwave and all of these kinds of basics to make life easier. You can even include a coffee machine if you feel like splashing out a little bit to make your employees more comfortable and show them that you appreciate their hard work.

It’s also important to have somewhere for them to sit so a table and chairs at the very least is a must. This becomes a sort of social area for people who are taking their breaks, giving the team a chance to talk outside of a strictly working environment. If your business office has multiple floors, we recommend that you have one of these on every one, so that people are not crammed.

A Happy Team

While you might not think that a happy team is part of creating the perfect office, they absolutely are. If your team is not happy, then it’s going to bring the overall mood of the office down, so when clients come to visit for meetings, this isn’t going to work well for you. They are going to be able to feel the vibe the second they walk into the place and this is the last impression that you want to give of your business.

As such, the way to fix this is to make sure that you are listening to what they want. Encourage your employees to come to you with any complaints or things that they would like to tell you by implementing an open door policy. This will help you to build a relationship with those that are working for you. You should also encourage open communication between and within teams to keep everyone happy.

A Comfortable Work Environment

In the same breath as the happy teams that we just mentioned, you also want to create a comfortable work environment for everyone that works in your business. This might be difficult in the start while you are just getting up and running, but the longer you go, the easier this should be. In order to do this you need to have a zero tolerance policy for any kind of discrimination or bullying. An office that has this kind of intimidation and discrimination within it is not going to be comfortable for those who are working there.

We also recommend that you have a suggestion box for your employees as to things that you can do to make the working environment in your business better. Keep in mind that they are the ones who work here, so they are the ones who should have the final say about what creates a good working environment for them.

Open Plan Design

If you want to encourage open communication and participation between your employees, then you should consider an open plan design. How are people supposed to communicate if you have all of your employees behind closed doors? Everyone is closed off from everyone else, so the creative process is going to be hindered as there will be nobody to bounce ideas off of. As well as this, it creates a divide between employees, causing issues without even meaning to.

Open plan design is the way forward here. Make sure that everyone has their own little workspace with all of the things that they need, but they are close enough to everyone else that they can ask for help, advice, or simply talk to their coworkers about what they are doing. It might not be what you are used to, or what they are used to, but we promise you that your productivity is going to be higher than ever before.

Natural Light

Studies have shown that human beings work better when there is natural light around them. There are many reasons for this, including the fact that we feel more at peace and connected to the world than we do when artificial light is involved. To do this, make sure that your office has lots of windows that aren’t blocked by blinds. Of course, if the building doesn’t have that many windows, you’re going to have to think outside the box on this one. If you’re on the top floor then a skylight is always an option.

Consider The Color

Have you ever heard of color association? If not, the general premise here is that there are certain colors that trigger certain reactions in the brain. For example, yellow is said to make us feel happier because it’s bright and bold, whereas brown is extremely boring and can make us feel down. Dark blue is often thought of as being associated with intelligence and so on. When designing your office, you need to keep color association in mind. Try to go for a color that represents the way that you want your employees to feel while they are working.

A lot of companies opt for dark blues and whites which are good options. The only issue that you might have with white is that every single mark shows up, so you may want to reconsider and choose something a little less easy to ruin.

We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the things that you need in order to create the perfect office. It can be tough to do this all on your own, so you may want to consider hiring an interior designer so that you have a professional on side while you are sorting it all out. It’s essential that you get this right, as otherwise you’re going to end up with unhappy employees who are working in a space that isn’t working for them, thus lowering your productivity.
