Nobody should stay in the same job forever. Even if you’re self-employed, you should continuously look for new and exciting opportunities. You only get one life, so it makes sense to live it to the fullest - and this includes seeking out different career avenues.
There will be times in your life when you ponder if it’s time to leave your current place of work. You’re scared about making the leap and it throws you into a life of uncertainty.
Nevertheless, you can look for signs to tell you that it’s definitely time to leave your job. Here are three things to be mindful of - if you’re experiencing them now, then it’s time to find something else to do.
Your Health Is Deteriorating
A job should not cause your health to deteriorate.
Health issues can form in many ways, be it physical health problems from doing your job, mental health problems caused by working conditions - or both. It’s amazing how many many people let their jobs harm their health. And it’s even more amazing how many companies get away with this.
If you think your health is getting worse because of your job, it’s time to leave. We’d even go as far as to say you can make legal claims against the company for causing harm to your health. Plenty of workers compensation claim lawyers will be happy to back you up in this regard as a business should make their workplace safe and healthy. If your health has deteriorated as a direct result of your job, there’s a lawsuit to be had.
You’re Not Getting The Respect You Deserve
Do you feel like your employers are taking you for granted? Do you work harder than everyone else or have you been at the company for years, only to receive hardly any recognition?
You’re not asking for a pay rise every week, but a little bit of respect wouldn’t go amiss.
If you’re never being put up for promotions, not getting pay rises after excellent work performance or just generally being overlooked at work, then it’s time to pack up and find somewhere else. Look for a new job where your hard work is appreciated for once.
You’re Losing Your Passion or Motivation
You used to enjoy going to work every day. Well, maybe “enjoy” is a stretch, but you didn’t mind what you did. There was enough motivation to get you through the day without seeing your job as a chore.
Unfortunately, things have changed.
You’ve lost all passion for your work and the motivation doesn’t exist. You lay in bed every morning forcing yourself to get up and trudge into work. This is not a good life to live. When you no longer take any joy or satisfaction from your job, it’s a massive sign that you should leave.
We get it; leaving your job is a tough decision, especially if you’re throwing away a stable income. On the other hand, it’s not worth sticking around if your health keeps getting worse, you’re not receiving enough respect or you lost all motivation. Get out there and find something better for you!
