Where Are Brits Heading On Their Staycations?

The coronavirus pandemic has forced many Brits to reconsider where they’re heading on holiday this year and in the future. Because of this, it’s caused many of us to turn to staycations and trying somewhere new in the UK.

According to research by Schofields, passenger demand in April 2020 was down a staggering 94.3% compared to April 2019, showing the devastating effects that the pandemic has had on the industry.

So if people aren’t travelling abroad, where in the UK are Brits heading for their well-deserved breaks?

The top destinations

You may be wondering where in the UK you can go that guarantees a good time, good views and good food. You’d be surprised that there are so many untapped destinations across the country that many of us don’t know about. Car dealer Jardine Motors looked into the best road trips on offer in the UK, below are some of their recommendations for your next staycation!

Head to Scotland

Tucked away in the Scottish Highlands is the Isle of Skye. With very few roads and a population of just 10,000, driving through Skye and witnessing some of the most dramatic mountainous backdrops is simply breath-taking.

As good as a road trip can get, it’s the perfect destination if you’re a keen walker and love a spot of exploring. And as an added bonus, it’s got one of the most beautiful coral beaches which is located towards the north-west of the island.

Discover the deep South

On the opposite side of the country you’ll discover Land’s End in Cornwall. With golden sandy beaches, coastal villages and an extensive history, it’s no wonder people are quick to pack up the car and head there on holiday!

Boasting multiple Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) along the way, you’ll be surfing the waves and indulging in some of the best locally sourced fish in the country in no time.

The dramatic in between

With its vast network of roads, lakes and market towns, the Lake District is England’s most loved national park. Whether you’re visiting Windermere, Ambleside or Keswick, there are walks, lakeside views and plenty of local bars and restaurants for you to enjoy.

Probably one of the top road trip destinations in the UK – pack your car full of walking gear and cosy clothes for the evening and you’ll have a great trip whatever the weather.

Try a staycation this year

Not only will you get to experience what the UK really has to offer, you’ll also be supporting your local economy. With the virus having a major impact on the travel and tourism sector, it’s more important than ever to help those businesses recover.

Instead of checking flight times, enjoy the freedom of being able to travel more local this year.
