A new centre of support for British export businesses and firms hoping to ply their wares overseas has opened in Mexico.

The centre, created in partnership between UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), will provide practical help and support for entrepreneurs doing business in the area.

Mexico is touted as a potential giant economy after the BRIC countries of Brazil, Russia, India and China.

Its economy grew by an average of 4.3 per cent between 2010 and 2012, at a time when the UK was mired in an economic paralysis.

Commenting, BCC director general John Longworth said Mexico was a “huge untapped market” for many UK firms.

He added: “Now, UK companies will be able to get advice and practical help with their export journey from British Chambers and business groups at home and in key markets across the world.”
