Google has acquired Israeli company Slicklogin, which created technology allowing users to login to websites using sound instead of typed passwords.
A statement on the SlickLogin website, posted today, read: “The SlickLogin team is joining Google, a company that shares our core beliefs that logging in should be easy instead of frustrating, and authentication should be effective without getting in the way.
“Google was the first company to offer two-step verification to everyone, for free – and they're working on some great ideas that will make the internet safer for everyone. We couldn`t be more excited to join their efforts.”
The size of the deal was undisclosed.
The technology works by playing inaudible sounds through a computers speakers which is picked up by a smartphone app. The app then confirms the users identity; it can be used on its own or with a traditional password.
