How To Cool Your Warehouse

If you own and run a warehouse, then you'll know that one of the hardest things to do is to keep it at the right temperature. When you have a massive space like this, it can get too hot if it's full of people and items, and it can also be too cold if it's not full enough.

Much like having outdated technologies can cause some inefficiencies along your work operations, having a warehouse that's too hot doesn't just make your employees uncomfortable, but it can cause them to slow down in their work.

The upfront costs of cooling your warehouse can feel daunting, but you need to be able to operate with updated technologies that keep people productive. Unproductive people will hit your bottom line far worse than the investment in industrial fans will, for example. If you want to make sure that your warehouse feels cool, here are some of the tips that you can use to do that.

  1. Make sure that you have metal screen doors. Using metal screen doors where the screen is an optional element is important. You need to let the cool air into the building from the shady areas during the summer, but you can use solid doors to keep the heat in through the winter. These doors in your warehouse are likely to be open a lot, so it's preferable for them to be a sliding door system so you don't have to worry about them taking up too much space or banging when it's windy. You could also place fans near to these doors so that you can pull the outside air into the warehouse, and that can be far more cost effective than a standard cooling system.

  2. The cold storage. If you have cold storage in your warehouse, managing this is important for cooling overall. Proper management means you ensure that you have a backup generator. This is in the case of if you lose power and an alarm system so that you can alert your staff if an area is getting too warm. The area around cold storage also has to be well insulated and it should be the furthest section away from any heat sources.

  3. Manage your thermal labels appropriately. Managing this is part of the best practice for cooling a warehouse environment. It's vital that you label everything to suit the temperature range of that part of the warehouse so that it's experiencing it in a way that's cost effective and efficient. Some warehouse managers choose to add cooling systems, but they often forget about some hot pockets near the ceilings. This can really cause some damage to your products and your labels. When you manage heat correctly, you'll be able to manage everything that the heat is going to affect. This way you don't just have to look at ways of cooling things down.

Cooling your warehouse isn't just about making sure that your products are in one piece, but ensuring that your people are happy. Happy people make for a profitable business.
