SEO is vital to your business. This is what will bring in new customers, improve your chance of getting found on search engines and should hopefully make you more money in the long run.

No matter if you are just starting out and looking to get a head start with your search engine optimization, or if you have been established for a while and have struck a bit of a stalemate, there is always something you can do to improve your Google presence.

SEO is important for every business, no matter if you are a small company of one person running a blog, or a large corporation. It is your SEO which can help you to stand out above your competition and help you to grow.

Without SEO, you may have the best product in the world, but no one will ever find out about. It is essentially a shop without any shopfront and will hinder you in any efforts of growing your business.

If you are looking to improve the SEO of your business, be sure to follow these tips to improve your Google core web vitals and have the best chance of ranking on search engines.

  • Improve the SEO in the backend of your website

When it comes to improving the SEO of your business, the first place you will need to look is into the backend of your website itself. You can use an external company or do this yourself, but one of the main things you will need to look at is your metadata.

You will need to check that you have completed the meta description, title tags, alt tags and URL structures for each of your pages. There are set lengths that these will need to adhere to, so it is important you check that these are met.

  • Create a Google my Business account

Google My Business is important for ensuring your business gets found by those that need your services. Google My Business essentially allows you to list your business location on Google Maps and other local search results so people who are looking for your industry can find you.

They can find important information about your company here. including your opening and closing times, your website link, photos of your business and a link that leads to your website. This makes it easy for them to get in touch with you.

  • Look into your Google Analytics account

If you don’t have Google Analytics, then install it (or ask your marketing team to.). If you do, then it is a good idea to spend some time looking through this and finding what pages on your site do well, and which ones don’t.

If pages don’t do well, then try and look at them and figure out why this is. Do they take a long time to load? Is the content poorly written? Is there a lack of images on the page? If any of these are true, it could be a reason why.

It is never a bad idea to go back to very old pages or blog posts on your site and rewrite these to accommodate more up to date information. Through your analytics you can also see what people have been searching for on your site.

If they are looking for information that you don’t currently have on your website, then try to add this. For example if you are a travel blog and find people searching for a specific country or city, try to write about this.

You know people are searching for it and so it should help your traffic go up. You could also set alerts on your Google Analytics and look at how your traffic differs as time goes on, comparing how it fares at different times and altering when your content goes out based on this.

  • Create a blog

A blog is important for getting your website to rank. With a blog you can target certain keywords and encourage people to visit your website. If you are a computer company for example, you can write posts about different technology news and information, or facts about computers.

While these won’t directly be posts that people can buy from, they will bring readers in to your website that might not have found it otherwise. Once they are on your website they then have the chance to browse and purchase your products.

Blog posts are also much more interesting for you to share on your social media posts and your newsletters - all of which can also help you to drive extra traffic to your website and indirectly create more sales as well as brand awareness. Blogs are also great for showcasing you as an expert in your field and enhancing your credibility.

  • Improve your website speed

If your website is slow then it can have a bad impact on your SEO. Put simply, page speed is the time it takes for all the elements on your page to load. The more time it takes, the less chance it has of ranking on Google. Google has used page speed as one of its ranking factors since 2010 and you can use their PageSpeed Insight Tool to measure how fast your web page speed is.

One of the best ways for you to improve your page speed includes to compress your images. Having large images or video files on your site can be one of the biggest hindrances to your page loading quickly as they take a lot of time for a search engine to process the data.

You can also compress and clean up your coding, upgrade your hosting and ensure that you activate browser caching. These are all simple ways that will improve the speed of your website and can enhance your overall SEO and chance of ranking.

These are just a few ways that you can improve the SEO of your business. SEO is integral to any company and it is best to get this sorted as soon as you can. These changes are not too difficult to implement but can lead to some great benefits for your business.
