Houses are as odd as they are standard. Sure, you have all the fixtures - bathrooms, bedrooms, if you’re lucky that might include basements and separate utility spaces. But that doesn’t mean the quirks of one house carry on over to another. In some cases, issues may need to be addressed sooner rather than later.
Or, sometimes these quirks can persist without much use. For example, what should you do with that strangely shaped spare room that you haven’t renovated yet? It might work fine for random stored boxes, but what if you wish to maximize the usable floor space of your house for value and utility sake?
It’s not always easy to know where you should start. As children, we knew that selecting one toy from the shelf means we were implicitly not choosing all the others, and as adults it’s hard to see this eternal problem still catches us.
Never fear, because below some of the most useful and appropriate options are recommended. Sometimes, limiting your approach to just a few options makes forward momentum all the easier:
Build A Wet Room
A wet room is effectively a shower unit but made into a full space, with the best waterproofing supplies used to keep the moisture internally. A powerful extraction fan and cleaning tools, like a handheld squeegee, can easily help you push the rest of the water into the lowered drain, although most will drain as expected. A wet room is the height of luxury, and you can use a fantastic overhead shower unit for full immersion in your daily soak.
Develop A Stylish Walk-In Closet
Walk-in closets are often considered the height of luxury, and the secret is you don’t need to do much to curate a worthwhile space here. A wardrobe or armour, chest of draws, or even just a freestanding coat rack with storage compartments can be enough.
Of course, you can also implement a full-length mirror, some good lighting, and a place to sit comfortably, and voila, you have a nice place to get dressed each morning.
Create A DIY Room
Not everyone has space for a workshop in their garage or utility space, and so it can be nice to have an “odds and ends” room in which you commit to DIY. This might be a perfect space you use when sewing together curtains, when putting together or reupholstering a new piece of furniture, or perhaps even committing to repairs in your family clothes, like fixing holes in a jacket. This space could have a small table, some containers, comfortable seating, simple desk lighting you can angle to get the best view, and books or tablet holders for looking up instructional guides and YouTube videos. This way, you have a separate space to focus on essential tasks that you may need, as anyone who runs a house knows just how much work goes into keeping everything going.
With this advice, you’re certain to do your best even with that oddly shaped room to convert.
